There’s Still Time — Save Yourself from the Fitnah of Facebook
In
my life, I have seen many productive and intellectual people turn into garbage
— solely because of Facebook. Facebook is like a dark blue world, where there's
almost no way out once you enter. Slowly, you become disconnected from the real
world and imprisoned in that blue darkness. Eventually, you drift away from
your society and turn into an unsocial being.
If
you're a student, you'll notice your studies deteriorating daily. You'll see
you no longer work with the same dedication if you're a businessman. If you're
an employee, you'll find that you're no longer as focused or efficient at work
as you once were. Gradually, your attention span and productivity start to
decline. You, who once were the best employee, slowly became the worst.
That’s
the world side of the story. Now, let’s look at it from a religious
perspective. Facebook controls your brain so you can no longer focus on prayer
(salat) with the same tranquility as before. Even during salat, new post ideas
pop into your mind. And if, while engaging in religious da’wah work, the
temptation of celebrity status creeps in, then that’s another disaster. This
fitnah has ruined both the spiritual and worldly lives of many.
So,
there’s still time. Step away from this dark blue world, open your eyes, and
see the beautiful real world your Lord has created for you.
